    Received the same thing. Also sent a warning email to Asakura Publishing, which appears to be a real company, in English and Japanese. Asakura Publishing did not respond. This seems to be a case of impersonation, as a Asakura Publishing principal is actually named Shigeru Hayashima...

    This is a check-cashing scam. (Asakura thought I am a lawyer, but I am not.) I have reported it to the National Consumer Protection administration.

    Strange, when I go to Asakura.co.jp I find that continuously since 1980 the President of Asakura is not Shigeru Hayashim but rather Keota Asakura. Not sure what this is, but appears to be a check cashing scam aimed at IP attorneys in the US. That's foolish since most IP attorneys do not do collection work. We hate collection work. But, I suppose the $1.2M stated amount is supposed to attract the gullible among us.
