Dear Counsel,

My name is Paula Thomas Wang and I am contacting your firm in regards to a divorce settlement with my ex husband (Li Suzuki Wang) who resides in your jurisdiction. I am currently on assignment in Hong Kong.

We had an out of court agreement (Collaborative Law Agreement/Marital Settlement Agreement) for him to pay $785,722.00 plus legal fees in 2008, but to date he has only paid me $100,000.00. I am hereby seeking your firm, to assistance in collecting the balance which was agreed upon when we got into the out of court deal by either mediation or if need be by litigation. I can be contacted on email: paulathomaswang2@hotmail.com

Yours Faithfully,

Paula Thomas Wang

  1. I'm a Florida lawyer and received the same email with an interesting twist -- a deaf client who can only correspond by email:

    Dear Counsel,

My name is Ms Grace Yamato. I was married to my ex husband Dino Yamato for 7 yrs and in Dec 2008, We mutually agreed under a Collaborative Participation Law Agreement to go our separate ways. Dino had agreed to pay me $914,000.00 under terms of the agreement so that I can settle down and to his credit; he has paid me $105,000.00 but with an outstanding balance of $809,000.00. I am hereby seeking your legal assistance in collecting, the balance or helping me enforce the agreement, and have him honor the agreement in entity.

I will be providing further information upon your request. I believe that one of the reasons he has refused to pay is because I have re-married.
I understand that been remarried does not automatically void the agreement. Prior to our separation due to irreconcilable differences, we were married for 23yrs of which by his instruction, I was a full time house wife to carter for our four children.

Please get back to me if this is a case you can undertake. I would love to contact you via telephone but i am deaf. I will not hear any you say on the phone. The only means of effective communication is via emails. I am hereby seeking your firm to assist in collecting the balance from him. He has agreed already to pay me the balance but have failed several times to keep to his promise of making the payment. it is my belief that a Law firm like yours is needed to help me collect payment from my ex-husband or litigate this matter if he fails to pay me this time around.

    Sincerely,
    Grace Yamato

  2. This is a collections scam email we got and I looked into because a person senior to me asked me to. The scammers had set up a fake website with internal pages, as well as real-looking email addresses. Notice that it's also Finland, not a typical claim. We got to a point where they sent us the contract they wanted me to collect on, and it was laughable. Needless to say we never did any business with them.

  4. My office received the same email from the deaf Grace Yamato, seeking to collect from her husband who lives in "my jurisdiction." I had heard it was a scam, so a senior attorney in my office told me to ask for a $10k retainer to move forward. Of course "Grace" doesn't have any money and her son (they live in Japan) needs heart surgery. She wanted me to take on the case for free and she'd give me a percentage of the payout.
